Website or just Instagram? What your business needs in 2026

Website or Instagram for a business in Colombia? Compare their roles, starting costs and the signs that you need both.

For a business in Colombia, Instagram is useful for showing your work and starting conversations, while a website gives you your own place to explain your offer and receive enquiries. If you already sell and keep answering the same questions about prices, hours or services, using both makes sense. If you are still testing an idea, you can start with Instagram and build a website once your offer is clear.

Can Instagram replace a business website?

It can handle part of the job, especially early on. You can share photos, announce new products and reply to messages before you have enough information to put together a complete website. That can be useful while you decide what to sell and which customers you can serve.

The limitation becomes clearer when your business information is scattered across posts. Someone likes a photo but cannot find a price, work out whether you serve Medellín or another city, or see how to book. They send a message, and you type the explanation again.

Instagram reach also depends on its algorithm, and an account is not your own website. Having followers does not guarantee that each post reaches all of them. A website gives you a consistent address where people can find an organised explanation of your offer, independently of how a social feed displays it.

What can a website explain more clearly?

A useful website brings the important answers together. Visitors should be able to understand your offer, find the details that matter to them and take the next step without searching through old highlights.

For a service business, that journey might cover the service, what is included, the area you cover and a quote request. For a restaurant, it might be the menu, opening hours, location and ordering instructions. These are planning examples, not customer success stories.

Start with four questions:

  • What do you sell, and who is it for?
  • Where and when can customers reach you?
  • What does the product or service include?
  • How can someone order, book or request a quote?

The answers matter more than decorative effects. Someone opening your link on a phone while travelling should be able to find the essentials quickly. Explore different business website options to decide how much space your information needs.

When is an Instagram account enough for now?

If you are testing an idea and changing your offer every week, a social account can be a practical starting point. A website cannot decide what your business sells or how you will deliver it. Those questions come first.

Your ability to respond matters too. If enquiries arrive and nobody answers them, adding another channel will not fix the process. Decide who replies, what details they need and how they confirm a sale before creating more ways for customers to contact you.

Try writing a short document with your services, prices or pricing criteria, hours and service area. If those details are still difficult to explain, work on them first. The same document can later become the starting material for your website, saving you from making content decisions during the final review.

What are the signs that I need a website?

One sign is repeatedly sending the same long message. Another is sharing several links to explain a single offer. You might also find that people referred to your business have nowhere clear to check what you do before calling.

There is no follower count that automatically makes a website necessary. The better question is what job the site needs to perform: explain a service, display a menu, collect enquiries or help customers put an order together.

Ask someone unfamiliar with your business to look at your profile. Then ask what you sell, how they would hire you and what information is missing. If you have to explain everything separately, you have a practical list of things the website should address.

Will a website put my business first on Google?

No. Publishing a site does not guarantee rankings or traffic. Clear information gives you a place to explain your services, but search visibility needs attention over time and is not assured by purchasing a website package.

A Google Business Profile is free and helps businesses appear on Maps. It can support your local presence while your website provides a fuller explanation of your offer. Keep your business name, hours, location and contact information consistent across the two.

Use the language customers use when asking for help. “Furniture repair in Medellín” explains an activity more clearly than “solutions that transform experiences”. Describe only the services and locations you actually cover. No wording can guarantee that a search engine or assistant will recommend or cite your business.

How much does a simple first website cost?

Choose the scope before comparing prices. A landing page puts several sections on one page. A multipage website separates information into different pages. If your main goal is to explain one offer and receive enquiries, a landing page may be enough.

Pixelados Express costs COP 300,000 (about USD 75), paid once, with delivery in 7 business days. It is one professional page with sections, responsive on mobile, tablet and desktop. Products or services have a photo, price and “Order via WhatsApp” button that opens the chat with the product and price already written. It also includes a floating WhatsApp button, map, opening hours, social links and a contact form delivered to your email. Use the admin panel to update text, photos, prices and hours from your phone. Basic local SEO includes Google Search Console ready and information for Google Maps. First-year hosting and one revision round are included.

It does not include a custom domain, shopping cart, online payments, bookings or appointment scheduling, multiple pages, a blog or a mobile app. You buy the domain separately for USD 10–20/year; connecting an existing domain is free. Hosting costs USD 20/year from the second year. Extra changes after the revision round cost COP 50,000 each.

A custom domain is separate, at USD 10–20 a year depending on the extension. Hosting costs USD 20 annually from the second year. The package does not include online checkout, multiple pages or a blog. The website pricing guide provides more context for comparing scope and costs.

How should Instagram and the website work together?

Use Instagram to share timely updates and send people to the information they need. A post about a service should lead to an explanation of that service. A food post should make it easy to find the menu. Avoid making visitors start their search again after every click.

Before sharing the site, open it on a phone and follow the entire route to contacting the business. Check that the WhatsApp button opens the correct number and that opening hours are current. Then use the same website address in your profile, customer messages and printed materials.

For visual references, browse the demos. These are fictional businesses created to demonstrate design possibilities, not customer projects. They are design examples: carts, online payments and bookings require a separate quote and are not included in Express. Use them to decide which information deserves attention and what action a visitor should take next.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep Instagram after launching a website?

Yes. You can keep posting and talking to customers there while your website holds the stable information. There is no need to give up a channel that works for you.

Do service businesses need online checkout?

Not always. If every job needs a quote, a clear page with a form or WhatsApp contact may be sufficient. Taking payment online is a separate feature.

Can a single page be enough?

Yes, if your offer fits a short, clear journey. If you need extensive service descriptions or separate content areas, consider a multipage scope instead.

What should I prepare before hiring a website provider?

Prepare your offer, usable photos, hours, service area and contact details. Decide who will answer enquiries and what you want visitors to do when they arrive.
