Affordable websites: what is included, what is extra and how to avoid overpaying

Compare affordable website features, exclusions, domain renewals, hosting and extra changes before hiring a provider in Colombia.

By Equipo Pixelados

An affordable website can cover your business essentials when you buy a clearly defined scope: explain your offer, work well on phones and make it easy to contact you. A low price does not automatically include a domain, an online store, a blog or unlimited changes. To avoid paying more than you need to, compare the deliverables, the exclusions and the charges that return each year.

What should an affordable business website include?

Start with the problem you need it to solve. A service business may only need to explain its offer, service area and quote process. A restaurant taking orders for several products may need more than a contact button, such as a menu with a cart.

A landing page is one page containing several sections. Adding an introduction, services and contact section does not make it a multipage website. Your quote should spell out that difference because it affects how much content and navigation you are buying.

Ask for specific functions. “Professional website” does not tell you whether you can edit photos, whether there is a contact form or whether the WhatsApp button reaches the correct number. A deliverables list gives you something useful to compare beyond marketing language.

What does Express include, and what costs extra?

Pixelados Express costs COP 300,000 (about USD 75), paid once, with delivery in 7 business days. It is one professional page with sections, responsive on mobile, tablet and desktop. Products or services have a photo, price and “Order via WhatsApp” button that opens the chat with the product and price already written. It also includes a floating WhatsApp button, map, opening hours, social links and a contact form delivered to your email. Use the admin panel to update text, photos, prices and hours from your phone. Basic local SEO includes Google Search Console ready and information for Google Maps. First-year hosting and one revision round are included.

It does not include a custom domain, shopping cart, online payments, bookings or appointment scheduling, multiple pages, a blog or a mobile app. You buy the domain separately for USD 10–20/year; connecting an existing domain is free. Hosting costs USD 20/year from the second year. Extra changes after the revision round cost COP 50,000 each.

The following table describes that package, not every provider in the market:

Item Included Not included Separate cost
Structure One page with sections Multiple pages or a blog A different scope; request a quote
Contact Form, WhatsApp button and map An online store with checkout A different scope; request a quote
Editing Panel for text, photos, prices and hours Unlimited project changes COP 50,000 per additional change
Revisions One round Unlimited rounds Confirm the additional changes requested
Hosting First year Free hosting indefinitely USD 20 annually from year two
Custom domain Not included Registration and renewal within the initial fee USD 10–20 a year, depending on the extension
Basic SEO Google Search Console Guaranteed Google rankings No price can guarantee rankings

Use the table to ask questions before paying. If you need something excluded, do not assume it is covered because you saw it on another website. Ask the provider to confirm its cost and whether it affects delivery.

What is the difference between a domain and hosting?

The domain is the address people use to reach your site. Hosting is the service that stores and serves the website so visitors can access it. They are different services, and their charges can be separate too.

Using the package and domain range above, the initial landing page plus domain would total USD 85–95. That is simply the sum of those two items, without extra changes or additional functions.

From the second year, hosting plus the domain would total approximately USD 30–40 annually at those rates. A one-time website construction fee does not mean there will never be another expense. Keep track of renewal dates, and ask who manages each service and how you will access it.

Why are some website quotes much higher?

Two proposals can both say “website” while solving very different problems. One might introduce a single service. Another might cover a large content structure or an online store with payments. Comparing only their prices misses the key question: what work does the site need to do?

A Pixelados website starts at USD 75 with Express; custom websites start at USD 1,000 depending on scope. See our pricing guide.

A higher price does not prove that a proposal is better, and a lower price does not prove that it meets your requirements. The website cost guide offers more context. Always compare similar scopes before drawing conclusions about value.

When is a landing page too limited?

A landing page may be too limited when you need separate pages or want customers to collect multiple products and quantities in a cart before contacting you. The same applies if your project requires a blog or online payments. Those features should never be assumed to come with a basic landing page.

Its cart prepares an order with the product, quantity, address and total to send to the business on WhatsApp, without sales commissions. Reservation requests also go through WhatsApp. It does not include an online payment gateway, an app or inventory management, so it is different from a store that automatically takes payments and updates stock.

What should I ask before accepting a quote?

Get written answers to a few specific questions. This makes the decision easier to review and reduces the chance of discovering a mismatch when the finished website is being presented.

  • How many pages and which functions will be delivered?
  • What can I edit through the administration panel?
  • How many revisions are included, and what do extras cost?
  • What renews each year, and who manages it?
  • What materials must I provide, and how is the schedule agreed?

Ask how future expansion would be handled too. You do not need to purchase every possible feature today, but you should understand the limits of the package. A first website with a clear purpose is more useful than paying for empty sections you have no plan to maintain.

How can I review the finished site without technical knowledge?

Open it on your phone and follow a customer's journey. Read the offer, find the hours and location, send a form and try the WhatsApp button. Check the destination number, rather than only checking that the button looks good.

Open the editing panel and try changing a sample text or photo with whatever guidance has been agreed. Gather adjustments into one list before using the revision round. For layout ideas, explore the demos, which depict fictional businesses and are not customer testimonials. Carts, online payments and bookings are not included in Express and require a separate quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can an affordable website work well on phones?

Yes. Price alone does not determine mobile usability. Confirm that mobile adaptation is included, and review the delivered site on your own phone.

Is a domain included in Express?

No. It costs USD 10–20 a year separately, depending on the extension. First-year hosting is included.

Does basic SEO guarantee visitors or sales?

No. Basic configuration and Google Search Console do not guarantee rankings, traffic or sales. Treat guaranteed outcomes separately from the actual functions being delivered.

Can I change photos without commissioning new development?

The panel in the package described lets you edit text and photos. New pages or additional project changes are a different request and need to be agreed separately.
